What is it? |
In July 2002, North West Development Agency approved a grant of £4,778,500 towards the regeneration of rural Cumbria.
This programme is intended to help realise the creation of a new environment for a progressive rural economy in Cumbria.
It will do this through the creation and enhancement of the rural infrastructure to support the production, distribution and marketing of Distinctly Cumbrian added-value products.

Distinctly Cumbrian has three objectives:
|
1. To enhance the infracture for local production, distribution and sales
2. To develop the capacity of producers
3. To assist producers adopt IT and the Internet to support the sales and marketing of products.

Who is eligible for Distinctly Cumbrian support?
|
|
Existing rural businesses seeking to “add-value” to Distinctly Cumbrian products. |

|
New businesses seeking to develop products with a strong Cumbrian theme. |
|
Groups of businesses who wish to collaborate either formally or informally to provide such products. |
|
Communities, who wish to work together to create, distribute or buy such products. |
|
Private sector investors who wish to develop essential parts of the production, distribution and marketing infrastructure. |
|
Existing businesses who are willing to collaborate with local producers in the distribution and retailing of local produce. |

Corporate purchasers who can be persuaded to source a percentage of their requirements through local producers e.g. hotel purchasing groups. |
