Rebecca Heap worked at a newsagents for seven years, the last three of which she was the manager. The shop stocked party goods such as helium balloons, and this sparked a
long-time desire to run her own party shop. |

Amanda Reynolds made her first clergy stoles in 1995 when her husband was at theological college. Amanda was already a qualified solicitor but with two very young children she decided to take a career break. |

Two local women have set up a social enterprise which aims to bring together Cumbrian communities through art.
Stomping Ground, set up by Di Markham and Gemma Webb last year, focuses on gathering and strengthening communities through increasing participation in the arts. This takes place through workshops where artists work with local people to create art. |

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has selected just one local agency to deliver its new £4.9 million business mentoring programme in Cumbria. Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency (CREA), with offices in Penrith and Kendal, will be responsible for coordinating the three-year programme which aims to help leaders and senior managers of small to medium sized businesses to develop their skills at no cost. |
