Enterprising young business wins contract with Carlisle United
This month an enterprising new Cumbrian business started supplying Carlisle United Football Club with medical cover for all their home fixtures.
The Cumbria Aid Ambulance Service was founded earlier this year by Ben Burrell, who had previously been an ambulance technician in the army. He saw a gap in the market and decided to start a service that covers patient transport, event medical cover, business training services, organ and tissue transportation and emergency first response. Their available staff includes everything from Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics through to First Aiders, and they have medical equipment to deal with any situation. They also work closely with organisations in Occupational Health and First Aid, as well as local medical practices.
Ben contacted Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency Business Adviser Paul Warren earlier this year with his plan. ‘Paul helped by putting me on the ISUS (Intensive Start-up Support) programme,’ says Ben. ‘He gave me assistance with tax, websites, and employment issues. The future is looking good--Carlisle United found us, and we’re currently talking to other potential clients.’
Business Adviser Paul Warren said, ‘We work with businesses throughout the start-up process, from helping develop viable business ideas, producing a business plan, getting started and continuing through the first few months of trading. We spend time advising clients on a one to one basis, run workshops and put on networking events. We also administer marketing grants for Eden District Council which can really help a young business promote themselves. Our aim is to give people the necessary skills and confidence to turn their idea into a viable business’. |
