SLDC Business event a huge success

22 November 2010

South Lakes business people view exhibitors stands

A Business 2 Business Event in Kendal has been hailed a great success after over 120 local business people attended. The marketing and networking event offered a full programme of workshops with numerous local businesses people on hand to offer help and advice.

The workshops proved very popular and covered topics such as twitter, blogs and social media plus branding, market research and public relations. There was also information about websites and why you need one, how to get one and how to make it work well for your business.

There was a strong presence of new start-up businesses through to well-established local enterprises from all over South Lakeland plus twenty exhibitors from the public and private sector. Between the workshops everyone had plenty of opportunities to network with each other and build up contacts with other like-minded local business people.

Graham Vincent, SLDC’s Portfolio holder for Economy and Enterprise, said: “It was great to see so many businesses come together for this event that are obviously keen to market themselves successfully. South Lakeland District Council are keen to help all local businesses and will continue to organise similar events in the future.”

Andrew Armitage from Armitage Online spoke about social media and commented: “A very well planned and executed event that gave us the opportunity to help other businesses get to grips with social media as well as find news sales leads. It was also great to see so many people pro-actively wanting to improve and expand their business.”

Steve Tonkin from Ibex Internet spoke about how to get your website recognised and added: “A fantastic mix of exhibitors and presentations and I was really impressed with the whole event. See you at the next one well done to all.”

The event was on Thursday 18 November and organised by South Lakeland District Council in partnership with Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency (CREA) and held at their new offices on Shap Road in Kendal.
