A selection of eight extra special Cumbrian Christmas puddings are on their way to London and the BBC studio of the TOG meister himself, Terry Wogan, courtesy of CREA’s Food Technology Centre team.
“Terry Wogan and his breakfast show colleagues regularly taste different foods on air,”
explained Ian Winchester, a CREA Development Officer who is based in the Food Technology Centre at Redhills near Penrith. “
Sausages are a favourite and we know that they’ve tasted some of the best traditional Cumberland sausages that are available. However, we’ve been really impressed by the range of gorgeous Christmas puddings being made in the county this year and thought that sending a parcel selection to BBC Radio 2 might be an opportunity for a bit of coverage and publicity for their Cumbrian producers.”
The puddings on their way to Wogan include an Ultimate Plum Pudding from Kendal, one of Taylor’s Classics from Longtown, Aunty Eves Plum Pudding from Country Fare in Upper Eden and a Luxury Christmas Pudding from Country Puddings near Penrith.“
As well as the more traditional recipes,” said Ian, “we’ve also sent along a Cranberry and Orange Christmas Pudding from Cranston’s, a Damson Christmas Pudding from Cowmire Hall in the Lythe Valley, an OK Foods allergy friendly pudding from Bells of Lazonby and an organic vegetarian pudding from The Village Bakery at Melmerby.”
The package was sent last week and listeners to Wogan may wake up to a Cumbrian mention between now and Christmas.
